Director of Accounting

Overview

Peet s Coffee & Tea is celebrating its 50th anniversary and we are seeking a key member of our accounting & finance team. The Director of Accounting will provide financial leadership for a dynamic, high-growth area of Peet s Coffee & Tea. Reporting to the Controller, key accountabilities include ownership of various aspects of the order to cash cycle, partnering closely with our Direct Store Delivery / Grocery business unit and its operators, maintain a fast-paced close cycle, mastery of systems knowledge and internal controls, as well as managing relevant aspects of working capital.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the accounting of an important strategic business unit that has experienced and continues to be an area of high-growth for the organization.
  • Passion for leading a significant portion of the accounting team, drives for and achieves results through leading and influencing team members.
  • Assist with leading month, quarter and year-end close and reporting process to publish timely financial statements and analysis for management and Audit Committee / Board of Directors and other reporting requirements as necessary for our business partners.
  • Review and approval of various standard journal entries prepared by accounting and finance.
  • The role will work closely with various other departments and channel leaders to establish, or refine procedures or resolve ongoing issues. Additionally, work closely with other accounting functions, such as the general ledger team, inventory or accounts payable teams, treasury, and/or tax.
  • Support team in researching and analyzing new accounting guidance and applying guidance to such topics as new revenue guidance, product distribution, and marketing programs.
  • Master and analyze how systems are used to support our underlying operations and accounting needs, or can be further integrated, to maintain or improve our financial output and KPIs.
  • Oversight and enforcement of Peet s accounting policies, including process improvement and the maintenance of appropriate internal control safeguards.
  • Manage working capital by driving improvements in the areas of credit and collections to ensure Peet s is meeting financial targets.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects that may arise.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Outgoing with strong leadership skills
  • CPA with public accounting experience preferred and proficient knowledge of GAAP.
  • Minimum 7 years of recent financial accounting experience with a combination in public accounting and/or with a retail, manufacturing or consumer products company.
  • Strong Excel and Office skills.
  • Excellent oral and written skills with ability to explain concepts and issues clearly and concisely.
  • Well organized and deadline driven.
  • Self-motivated and hands-on.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
