The Director, ESG Operations reports to the SVP Coffee & Sustainability and provides subject matter expertise and advice to the senior leadership team.
This role facilitates the Sustainability Steering Committee at Peet's, while liaising regularly with counterparts at JDE Peet's in Europe and globally, to provide strategic leadership across climate, carbon, packaging, waste, safety, nutrition, diversity, and inclusion.
The Director leads compliance/auditable reporting and gives critical input to external communications on ESG topics.
What You Will DoThe primary responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to:
ESG Strategist:
Working with the Steering Committee, design and refine short and long-term ESG strategy for Peet's Continue to assess material issues as we grow and scale, partnering with external agencies and key stakeholders to build strategic models and a strategic roadmap for overall impact Advance our ESG knowledge via partnership with sustainability experts and peers, and active participation in industry forums.
Subject-Matter Expert:
Lead compliance.
Work closely with Accounting and Legal to maintain the framework of auditable reporting that keeps the company in compliance with regulatory requirements and public commitments in ESG.
Partner with business leads to interpret and embed ESG principles, developing specific KPIs to enable both channel efficiencies and company-wide commitments Build engagement through internal communications and knowledge sharing Provide expert advice on core sustainability topics including carbon, water, and climate, as well as global ESG frameworks.
Partner closely with Legal Counsel, HR, and Finance to build the structure necessary to manage and implement the global ESG strategies Communication and Reporting:
Manage cross functional relationships to guide, support and connect the dots on our ESG vision and goal for our employees, consumers and customers In conjunction with Brand Marketing, develop and manage successful integrated ESG/CSR initiatives and communications programs that help make a positive impact on both reputation and the bottom line Partner closely with JDE to advance annual ESG reporting, alignment with global ESG disclosure frameworks such as SBTi, and improve our ESG ratings Manage external NGO and stakeholder relationships to maximize collaboration and continuously increase positive impact Who You Are Minimum of 10
years' work experience including sustainability program development and execution, ESG reporting and communications Strong ability to inform, advise and influence senior executives and comfort level with executive engagement Experience with coffee or related products (cocoa), food and beverage industry preferred Efficient, self-starter with a positive attitude Collaborative working style with the ability to engage diverse teams and influence leaders Ability to prioritize and manage workload in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment Internal drive to finish work by deadlines (self-motivated) Intense attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects, teams, and third-party advisors simultaneously Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity Strong problem solving, decision making, verbal and written communication skills Willingness to ask for help and leverage the knowledge and experience of others to overcome tough obstacles Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks and methodologies including TCFD, GRI and SASB, and the GHG Protocol Familiarity with GHG emissions /carbon accounting technology platforms (such as Persefoni) and ESG data management platforms (such as Sphera or Greenstone) preferred Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a related field such as environmental science, sustainability, sustainable business or public health At Peet's we hire the best people and are committed to supporting our employees and rewarding them for their work.
The target annual base salary range for this position is $175,000 - 215,000 annually.
The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant's qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job.
